Contractor Talk: West Quality Construction

In this series, we reach out to some contractor colleagues that we’ve gotten to know over the years. You’ll read a bit about their values, how they run their businesses, and how they feel about Blue Jay Exterior Renovations. Because we felt a bit awkward about interviewing our own friends about us, we hired a writer to put this series of articles together. We hope you enjoy it!

West Quality Construction, a renovation company serving the Calgary market, has been in business for over 12 years. Owner Francois Beauregard says excellent customer service has been a pillar of his company’s success as it continues to grow.

Bjorn Delblanc of Blue Jay Exterior Renovations got to know Francois while working for James Hardie Building Products. Francois was excited to hear that Bjorn intended to join a siding renovation company servicing the Edmonton market.

“I thought it was a great idea to be able to grow himself and work for himself because he and Paul had the knowledge to do it right,” says Francois.

Customer service and clear communication are core elements of the homeowner experience when dealing with Blue Jay Exterior Renovations. Bjorn says his company is, “designed to give people a really high level of communication service from start to finish; from the moment a customer calls us in the first place to well after the job is done.”

Francois agrees on the importance of consistent communication, “communication with the homeowner is the key. Being honest about what’s going on, I think that goes a long way.”

Blue Jay Exterior Renovations is deliberate about focusing on the individual homeowner. Bjorn says, “we’ve made the decision to only pursue work from private homeowners. We don’t pursue any work from builders. We wanted to dial in our focus on that specific area because nobody else does it properly.”

Francois says that focus has paid off for Blue Jay customers “I’ve heard that workmanship and service is excellent,” says Francois. “No one was pushing that exterior renovation specialty in their market.”

With this singular focus brings an understanding of a homeowner’s needs, whether it’s being available to meet at a convenient time or making sure homeowners understand their options.

“We don’t expect our customers to know everything there is to know about siding like we would if we were working with a homebuilder,” says Bjorn. “When you’re a homeowner doing a project you don’t always have the time between eight and five to call your contractor.”

According Francois, availability is just one thing to look for when hiring a contractor. You should also enjoy their company since you will be working together quite closely.

“Bjorn is a good family guy and a very good person to work with and share time with,” says Francois. “You can tell he knows what he is talking about. He’s very intent on doing a good job.”
