It seems to us that one of the reasons Modern Farmhouse is such a hit is that it is based on classic design principles (with a heavy reliance on light colours like white) and it is flexible enough to suit any aesthetic style. The clients for this Edmonton area home decided to go with a classic Modern Farmhouse update, with one unique twist. They asked us to maintain the original accent trim board layout on the front of the home, but use modern looking black trim boards as a supremely bold highlight. The black trim boards tied in beautifully with the black soffit, fascia, and eavestrough as well.

The main exterior cladding for this project is white vinyl board & batten siding. Vinyl board and batten is the most economical way to get the vertical look of batten boards, and it requires much lower maintenance than the old wood siding that inspires the look. Bonus!
