Vinyl Siding and Versetta Stone Exterior Update

Exterior design masterpiece

It’s tough to get much more plain than the original exterior design of this family home. Here’s a complete transformation to kickstart your creative juices!

First off, we have to talk about the colour. This is Royal vinyl siding in Marine Blue. This rich colour of blue has been one of the most popular colours for our customers in 2020. It’s a fantastic choice: dark enough to give a bold contrast to what was there before, but not so dark that it turns the house into an imposing monolith.

The accenting products make a big difference in completing this design. The masonry is a panelized cultured stone: Versetta Ledgestone in Mission Point. 3.5” HardieTrims in Arctic White surround the windows and doors, bringing extra emphasis to the openings. (Adding window trims to your vinyl siding exterior is a cost-effective way to increase curb appeal that quite frankly is not used enough in Edmonton.)

The shingle accent in the front gables is Royal Building Products’ Portsmouth Shake in Harvard Slate. Portsmouth is one of our favourite solid-coloured vinyl shingle products because it is so understated. Rather than an exaggerated wood texture that just ends up looking fake, Portsmouth features a more subtle wood grain and a straight-edge panel profile. The more subtle touches actually make the overall result look more realistic than comparably priced vinyl shingles with more “wood look” features.

The finishing touch on this exterior is the fresh, new aluminum cladding of the front walkway posts and garage door trims. The clean white metals are a dramatic upgrade from the original painted wood boards - and they’re now maintenance free!
