James Hardie Siding Refresh
This renovation honoured the original design of the home, while adding energy efficiency and a beautiful, low maintenance exterior.
When you’ve been in your home a long time and loved it - you might not want to make a drastic departure from the original design - and that’s totally fine! This Edmonton bungalow was featured horizontal aluminum siding in green on the majority of the home, with a unique board and batten finish on the corners.
The homeowners loved the look of it just like they loved their home - but it was time for an upgrade. So rather than changing the siding and changing the style, we honored the original design with a modern update.
After removing the original siding, we installed new Tyvek Drainwrap and Enerspan Insulation. As the insulation was 3/4”, we were able to install the Hardie siding directly over it (without strapping), simply increasing the length of the fasteners used. That 3/4” insulation offers an R3.5, a roughly 30-35 increase in the thermal value of the walls - a substantial increase that helps keep the home more comfortable year round, and keep utility bills down.
Mountain Sage Hardie Plank replaced the original horizontal siding, and Hardie Panel with 2.5” Hardie batten strips were used to recreate the look of the corners. You’ll see the new Hardie siding looks a bit darker than the aluminum siding looked, but otherwise the original design and look have been recreated in a low maintenance, energy efficient update.
